Logos are often easily recognizable shapes or images found in public spaces. The interpretation of the logo is consistent from viewer to viewer with little variation in that interpretation of what it is or what it means. Is this the power of a simplistic logo shape, or does marketing of that shape contribute to that recognizability?
This project is a study in logo creation and marketing and uses advertising in public spaces to build brand recognition.
The standard logo is presented here takes inspiration from abstract expressionism, each person may find their own unique interpretation.
The logo can appear in both standard and inverted versions.
The purpose was to create an image that would be recognizable, consistent, and stand out in its environment, but have varied interpretations from each viewer.
The logo can be used as a single unit or the unit can be repeated in a piece of media, such as a motif.
The logo can appear by itself or with accompanying imagery such as the exclamation mark. It can also be used as a collaborative platform for local artists to depict their interpretation of the logo.
The frame around the image (either the logo or an extended usage) must always be present. The frame can be white or black. If the logo appears by itself, the frame must be present.
The accompanying gallery shows some examples of usage.
The main goal of this project was to advertise the logo in unconventional ways to the public.
This was accomplished through the use of stickers and poster placements in public spaces.
The following section will cover the approach to advertising.
The first step was to distribute the logo to the public. This was done through the sticker packs.
Sticker packs contained both a standard logo sticker and an inverted logo sticker as well as a “call to action card” for the recipient to place the stickers where they choose.
Each sticker pack has hand-painted designs making them unique.
The main goal of this project was to advertise the logo in unconventional ways to the public.
Taking inspiration from the street art found around the city, the logo was printed and posted in various locations using a wheat paste method to raise brand awareness.
The following images document the process and their placement.
